Montego Bay Court, Police Station and Rehab Centre

We visited the proposed site of a rehabilitation centre for people with drug and alcohol addictions. It is a joint project between the Rotary Club of Montego Bay and the Jamaican Health Department and will use the therapeutic community model to assist residents to address their addiction.
We met with Assistant Police Commisssioner Frater, responsible for the area including Montego Bay and learnt about his role and the particular challenges he faces e.g unstrcutured/squatter communities, drugs and guns.

We were given a tour of the Montego Bay Court House.

Resident Magistrate Hall-Harris spoke to us about the role of her court in the Jamaican Judicial system. Resident Magistrates deal with over 80% of cases, with some later going on to be dealt with in the Supreme Court.
